About Me
Mikhala Armstrong joined KPTV-FOX12 Oregon in December 2024 after formerly reporting and anchoring at KGET-17 News in Bakersfield, CA since September 2022. Before that, Mikhala graduated from the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University, receiving a master's degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism.
During her time at Syracuse University, Mikhala took on the challenging role of a Washington D.C. Correspondent for KGET. This position saw her covering a range of crucial topics, including COVID, Monkeypox, Abortion rights, and the Jan. 6th Capitol hearings. Her ability to handle high-pressure situations and deliver comprehensive coverage was further honed during her work as a reporter for WAER news, the NPR radio station associated with Newhouse, where she reported on politics, education, and more.
Before embarking on her professional journey, Mikhala Armstrong laid a solid educational foundation at San Diego State University. Her bachelor's degree in theater with an emphasis in performance and a minor in journalism is a testament to her diverse interests and commitment to learning. This academic background, combined with her innate passion for storytelling, has been instrumental in shaping her successful career in journalism, instilling confidence in her expertise. After graduating, she interned at KTVU, the top-rated Fox affiliate station in Oakland, California, where she was born and raised.
Mikhala's versatility shines through in the newsroom as she takes on various roles. She is not just a general assignment reporter but also a fill-in anchor who does weather and is a prolific writer and producer of multiple special reports. Her diverse skill set is evident in the Edward R. Murrow Award Winning & Emmy-Nominated special, "Reparations: Let's Talk About It," which examines the California Reparations Taskforce leading up to their final report that they will present for approval to legislators and discusses the perspective Kern County residents have on reparations. She also exemplifies this in her KGET special report "Poison in the Water," which examines California's problem with poor water quality and Kern County leading as the epicenter of the crisis.
